Its not bad to change the way we are in different situations in life as long as our core values stay the same. Adapting to different environments, different conversation, different people can be a good thing, and is part of the fun in life to learn. Its not being fake, its being polite in most cases. Learn to adapt to others have a sense of compassion and know that there is a time for listening, learning, speaking, silence and fun.
